Students at the Pulaski Technical College Arkansas Culinary School received kudos Tuesday for their culinary assistance at the Taste of Home Cooking School "Spring Sensations" show at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.
More than 700 people attended the sold-out trade show and cooking demonstration, presented by Arkansas Life. Pulaski Tech was one of the sponsors, along with the Arkansas Beef Council, Johnston's Home Center, Curves, Catering to You, Distinctive Kitchens & Baths and other businesses.
During the two-hour cooking demonstration, culinary specialist Jamie Dunn from the Taste of Home Cooking School prepared 10 dishes, including Greek turkey burgers with spiced yogurt sauce, salmon with herb and citrus orzo, chocolate and vanilla crème brulee, Mushroom Napoleon and Shanghai chicken with Mandarin ginger glaze.
Sixteen students in Chef Woody Powell's Baking I class attended the event and worked both onstage and backstage. Other culinary students helped man Pulaski Tech's information booth at the event, sharing information about the culinary school and Little Rock-South.
Pulaski Tech students Erin Crambett and Patricia Powell assisted Dunn on stage with the preparations for a fruit and nut granola while student Jimmie Glover helped prepare a Mexican lasagna and Asian shrimp salad. Student John Zylma worked behind-the-scenes, readying utensils and lining up equipment to ensure a smooth transition between cooking segments.
Earlier in the day, four students in instructor Lorri Hambuchen's class assisted with the pre-show food preparation. The students were recognized at the end of the show and received applause.
