PTC congratulates 2009 Skills Winners4/16/2009
More than three dozen Pulaski Technical College students brought home gold, silver and bronze medals this week from the Arkansas SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Championships in Hot Springs.
Hundreds of students from across state competed at the two-day event, which tests students' knowledge, ability and leadership skills in their respective fields. Competing were students from the college's Technical and Industrial programs, Arkansas Culinary School and the Saline County Career Center.
Twenty-three students received first-place gold medals and can advance to the National Leadership and Skills Conference to be held June 21-26 in Kansas City, Mo. where prizes and scholarships are awarded.
College students who received a silver or gold medal in the post-secondary competition and high school students who get a gold medal in a secondary competition all receive a tuition scholarship to Pulaski Tech.
On Tuesday, Gov. Mike Beebe visited the Hot Springs Convention Center, offering encouragement to competitors. He also served as the keynote speaker for the advisors' luncheon on the opening day.
