The students and faculty of the Respiratory Therapy Program are presently celebrating National Respiratory Care Week through October 25. Information tables, along with a video and equipment will be on display during this week and will be located on the 1st floor of the AHEC building on the main Pulaski Technical College campus. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to stop by and see what Respiratory Therapy is all about. This a great opportunity to meet, encourage, and recognize the current students and educators of the PTC RT Program for the work they perform, and the value the profession brings to the field of health care.
Respiratory Care Practitioners play a vital role in the field of health care. RT professionals evaluate, treat, and care for patients ranging from premature infants to the elderly, who suffer with breathing and other cardiopulmonary disorders.
Under the direction of a physician, respiratory therapists provide many life-saving diagnostic procedures and therapeutic treatments, such as oxygen administration, aerosol delivery, intubation, and mechanical ventilation. RCP's are employed in hospitals, home health facilities, sleep labs, physician offices, and educational institutions with a projected employment growth of 19 percent through the year 2016.
