Sandy Longhorn, instructor of English, has won the 2014 Louise Bogan Award
from Trio House Press for her poetry mauscript, The Alchemy of My Mortal Form.
The poems were written between summer 2011 and summer 2012 and feature a persona dealing with a disease that resists diagnosis. Throughout the book, this persona deals with the complexities of the current medical-industrial complex.
Longhorn's recent book, The Girlhood Book of Prairie Myths, won the 2013 Full Length Poetry Contest from Jacar Press, and her first book, Blood Almanac, won the 2005 Anhinga Prize for Poetry.
Longhorn also directs the Big Rock Reading Series at Pulaski Tech and co-edits Heron Tree, a journal of online poetry.
