The culinary students will show off their cake decorating and pastry arts
skills at a Sugar Arts Show from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on May 5, at the Culinary Arts
and Hospitality Management Institute.
The event is free and open to the public.
There will be dozens of cakes on display, and attendees will be treated to mini cupcakes, petit fours, cake balls and other confections. Many of the cakes on display will be the final class projects for students in Chef Cathy Kincaid's Advanced Wedding Cakes class and Chef Jan Lewandowski's Baking and Pastry Arts classes.
"We will look at originality, creativity, neatness and how the students use color and apply the skills and techniques they've learned during the semester," Chef Kincaid said. "We're expecting some beautiful works of art."
The student chefs will compete in the categories of tiered wedding cakes, non-tiered wedding cakes, novelty cakes, and confections. There will be both beginner and advanced categories for each divisions, plus a "People's Choice" award that will be decided by attendees. The awards ceremony starts at 1:30 p.m.
