Pulaski Tech is partnering with the American Red Cross on Jan. 24 to host a
"We Challenge U" blood drive on Jan. 24 at Little Rock-South from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
All donors will receive a commemorative T-shirts while supplies last.
The Red Cross has an urgent need for all types of blood. January's winter weather forced the Red Cross to cancel 320 blood drives in 25 states, resulting in a shortfall of more than 9,300 donations.
"An hour of your time could help save up to three lives," said Marci Manley, Red Cross spokesperson for the Greater Ozarks-Arkansas Blood Services Region. "We challenge students to roll up a sleeve and give blood at the upcoming drive. Donating blood is an easy way to volunteer, and it helps patients in need."
College and high school blood drives account for as much as 20 percent of donations given through the Red Cross.
Prior to donating blood, donors will register, complete a brief health-history screening and have their blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature and iron level checked. The entire donation process takes about an hour, but the actual blood donation takes about 10 minutes.
Refreshments are provided.
