Auditions set to cast members in "For Colored Girls"

Division of Fine Arts and Humanities will be auditioning cast members on Thursday and Friday for a spring production of For Colored Girls.

Auditions will take place beginning at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, and at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in the RJ Wills Lecture Hall, located on the second floor of the Campus Center. Auditions last about two hours. Faculty, staff and students can try-out, but actresses need to be women of color.

A 30-minute pre-audition will be held 4:15-4:45 p.m. today in the RJ Wills Lecture Hall.

A total of 28 women will be cast for the production with three people cast for each character to represent young, middle age, and older characters.

Performances will take place March 17-19 at the Mosaic Templars Building in downtown Little Rock. Showtimes will be at 7:30 p.m. nightly with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on March 18.

For Colored Girls was written in the 19070s by Ntozake Shange and is considered a choreopoem, which is meant to be performed and danced. Tyler Perry did a film version of it in the fall. Pulaski Tech's production, however, will focus on the original text.

PTC theatre instructor April Gentry-Sutterfield is co-directing the choreopoem with Little Rock actress Verda Davenport-Booher.
