College Day Training Seminar attracts Youth Challenge students

Sixteen students from the Arkansas National Guard Youth Challenge Academy attended a College Day Training Seminar on Feb. 3 at Pulaski Technical College. Nontraditional Recruitment Coordinator Juanita Brown hosted the event.

The purpose of the seminar was to offer college-bound students career explorations in the Technology and Industrial Programs or University Studies divisions at Pulaski Technical College. They gained first-hand knowledge concerning differences between high school and college settings.

Presentations on program offerings were given by Larry Lewallen, Tech Prep/Career Links coordinator, Sherry Bowman, director of Practical Nursing and Diane Butler, counselor. The students were also given the opportunity to question the presenters and receive immediate feedback.

Students attended class sessions in several program areas including Aviation Maintenance Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Automotive Technology, Information Technology, University Studies, Practical Nursing, Paralegal Technology and Welding. The students ate lunch in the student center where box lunches were provided by Youth Challenge.

At the end of the session, students were presented with a certificate of participation for attending. Six students applied for admission to Pulaski Technical College for the fall 2005 semester.
