Mass flu clinics planned for central Arkansas
10/27/2010

The Arkansas Department of Health is providing free seasonal flu vaccine at mass flu clinics in every county in the state. This year, the seasonal flu vaccine includes protection from the H1N1 virus, so there will not be a separate shot.

A mass flu clinic is a day-long event during which the community comes together to immunize as many people as possible. ADH staff, health professionals and volunteers work as a team to provide vaccine.

Events planned are as follows:

Pulaski County:  Nov. 3, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m., at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds 2600 Howard St.,  Little Rock
Nov. 4, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m., at the North Little Rock High School East Campus, 2400 Lakeview Rd., North Little Rock

Faulkner County:  Nov. 4, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.,  McGee Center, 3800 College Ave., Conway

Lonoke County:  Nov. 5,  8 a.m. - 6 p.m.,  Lonoke Fitness Center, 1355 W. Front St., Lonoke

All clinics offer walk-up service. The clinic in North Little Rock will also offer drive-through service.

Dr. Paul Halverson, state health officer and ADH director, said, "Flu can be a serious illness and we lose roughly 36,000 Americans to complications from flu each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is encouraging everyone six months and older to get a shot. Last year, the ADH and private providers vaccinated more than 800,000 Arkansans for seasonal flu and H1N1 influenza A. Even with this incredible effort, we lost 53 Arkansans to complications from flu. Preventing the flu is up to you. Please get your shot and encourage your family members to do so too."
