Pulaski Tech raises in-state tuition 2.5 percent

Tuition at Pulaski Technical College will increase by 2.5 percent for in-state students beginning with the fall 2010 semester.

The Pulaski Technical College Board of Trustees unanimously approved the increase during a regular meeting on Jan. 25.

Tuition costs will increase $2 per credit hour, from $80 to $82 for in-state residents. Tuition for out-of-state students will increase $4 per credit hour from $131 to $135, and tuition for international students will increase $14 per credit hour from $253 to $267. In-state tuition is capped at $1,722 per semester.

The increase will cost a full-time student taking 15 credit hours per semester an extra $30 per semester. The current fees will remain the same for the 2010-11 academic school year.

The Pulaski Technical College Board of Trustees reviews tuition adjustments in January each year in order to give current and new students plenty of time to prepare for the fall semester and to publicize the information. Registration for the fall semester begins in April.

"We had hoped to get by a year without an increase in tuition, but with the events over the past week or so, we thought it necessary," college president Dr. Dan F. Bakke said, referring to state budget cuts announced earlier this month. "We do not want to cut any services that our students have come to depend on."
