Fusion students set to meet Sept. 11
9/9/2008

Pulaski Technical College's new Gay-Straight Alliance called Fusion will have its first meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Campus Center Food Court.

All students, regardless of sexual orientation, are invited to attend.

Fusion aims to promote pride, awareness, involvement, support and mentoring among gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people on campus by forming an alliance between people of all sexual orientations.

Membership is open to anyone interested in the issues surrounding the GLBT community. The organization will focus on issues of activism, support for GLBT students and building a community of inclusiveness at Pulaski Tech.

Fusion's first project is helping the college with its second annual Clothesline Project, a national campaign to end domestic violence, on Oct. 6. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence estimates that nearly 50% of the members of the GLBT community will be victims of domestic violence. If estimates are accurate, nearly 450 Pulaski Technical College students are at-risk for domestic violence.
