Arkansas Teen College receives grant
The Division of Fine Arts and Humanities recently received grant funding from the Arkansas Arts Council After School/Summer Residency program to support the second year of Arkansas Teen College, including alumni activities, creative writing workshops and participation in taping the radio show, "Tales from the South." The proposal was submitted by the Pulaski Technical College Foundation.
The Foundation received $8,012 to fund artist time, planning, documentation and publicity/promotion. Support for the Pulaski Tech Foundation was provided, in part, by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage and the National Endowment for the Arts.
As part of the initiative, Pulaski Technical College will contract with Paula Martin Morrell, an Arts in Education artist with the Arts Council. She will use art, music, drawing and other forms of expression to show students how to use both right and left brain modes when writing.
Planning for the 2009 Arkansas Teen College has already started. The next session will include a restructuring of the class schedule to allow students more course opportunities and an expansion of curriculum to incorporate acting, robotics, painting, sculpting, juvenile literature, Spanish language and culture, in addition to the other areas of creative writing, photography, digital art, music and film studies offered this past summer.
