PTC Arkansas Culinary School announces move

The Pulaski Technical College Arkansas Culinary School will have a new home this fall.

The school, currently housed in the Performance Food Group building at 4901 Asher Avenue in Little Rock will move to Little Rock-South. All classroom and kitchen instruction will take place at Little Rock-South site when fall classes begin Aug. 18.

"Our culinary school has had phenomenal growth due to the popularity of the curriculum and the employability of program graduates," said Dr. Dan F. Bakke, college president.
"We need more space, and Little Rock-South is the perfect solution."

Renovation work at Little Rock-South is being completed this summer and will open this fall. It will house the Pulaski Technical College Transportation Technology Center, as well as college classrooms and laboratories, student services, tutoring services, a library, computer labs, offices for faculty and staff, meeting spaces and a food service area.

"A full-service caf?ill be operated by culinary school faculty and students, giving hospitality and culinary students hands-on experience in food preparation and restaurant management," said Todd Gold, director of the Pulaski Technical College Arkansas Culinary School.

About 140 students were enrolled in culinary programs in the past academic year.

The school currently offers an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts and technical certificates in Baking and Pastry and in Culinary Arts. A technical certificate in Wine and Spirits Studies will be added this fall.

The Arkansas Culinary School began as a private enterprise in 1995, located in the Quality Foods building on Asher Avenue in Little Rock. After Performance Food Group acquired Quality Foods in 2002, the arrangement persisted. The Arkansas Culinary School became the Pulaski Technical College Arkansas Culinary School in January 2007 when the college purchased the school's assets, and its programs were approved by the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
"We are extremely grateful for the generosity of Performance Food Group during our stay there," Gold added. "The success we have enjoyed so far would not have been possible without PFG's support."
