GED graduation set for June 13

An estimated 100 Saline County residents will celebrate the completion of their GED at a graduation ceremony hosted by the Saline County Adult Education Center on June 13.

The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. at the Benton Senior Adult Center, at 210 Jefferson St. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and the reception that will follow.

"They have worked very hard toward this milestone, and we want to recognize their achievement," said Yvonne Dougherty, director of the center, which offers General Educational Development (GED) preparation, basic skills, English as a Second Language, and computer literacy programs for residents of Saline County and the surrounding area.

Malcolm Washington, a former GED graduate, will be the guest speaker. Other guests include Rep. Lamont Cornwell; Eddie Black, director of the Benton Chamber of Commerce; Dr. Dan F. Bakke, president of Pulaski Technical College; Mary Ann Shope, vice president for economic development at Pulaski Technical College; Sgt. Steve Griffin, National Guard Recruiter; and Bud Lidsky.

The Saline County Adult Education Center is located at 16936 Interstate 30 in Benton at Exit 117.
