College celebrates opening of Saline County Career Center

Pulaski Technical College and Saline County today celebrated the grand opening of the Pulaski Technical College Saline County Career Center at 3201 South Reynolds Road in Bauxite (formerly the Reynolds Metal Hurricane Creek plant).

The Saline County Career Center is the result of an innovative partnership between Pulaski Tech and Saline County businesses, industries, education and government.

Made possible by an Alcoa Inc. donation of 51 acres of land and seven buildings with over 50,000 square feet of floor space, the center offers secondary programs for high school students, as well as technical and occupational programs for the general public.

In addition to celebrating the opening, state Sen. Shane Broadway of Bryant announced $325,000 in state general improvement funds for center operation. The Pulaski Technical College Foundation also received a special $10,000 grant from the Alcoa Foundation.

Dr. Dan F. Bakke, college president, said three of the seven buildings located at the site have been renovated for education and training use. Future plans call for renovation of other buildings and possible new construction.

Program offerings include Medical Professions Education, Computer Systems Technology, Cosmetology, Aviation Technology and Automotive Technology. This spring, the college will add courses in Early Childhood Education. New programs will be added in the future in response to the needs of Saline County business and industry.
