Pulaski Technical College hosts campus crisis preparedness workshop

Representatives from two-year colleges across the state will be on the PTC campus today to attend a workshop on campus crisis preparedness.

The workshop, sponsored by the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges, will be taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pulaski Technical College Campus Center. Sessions will be taught by the School Violence Resource Center at the University of Arkansas System Criminal Justice Institute.

About 75 college administrators, including representatives from most of the state's 22 two-year colleges are scheduled to attend.

"The Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges recognizes the importance of crisis preparedness and being able to deal with crises of all types," said Dr. Ed Franklin, executive director of the AATYC. "We are fortunate in Arkansas to have the Criminal Justice Institute with expertise in dealing with all types of crisis management."

Educators will discuss designing a campus crisis plan, conducting a campus risk assessment, preventing crime through environmental design, and other topics.

"We are happy that Pulaski Technical College is able to host this event," said Dr. Dan. F. Bakke, college president. "It is important that all colleges be as prepared as possible so that we can ensure the safety of our students and campus community."
