Palm trees find new home at PTC

Budding horticulturalists volunteered Saturday, May 19 to plant several hardy palms and other subtropicals on the Campus Center promenade.

The trees are being funded by a grant from the Southeastern Palm Society. Austin Lovenstein, a Pulaski Technical College math instructor and avid gardener, applied for the grant earlier this year and his proposal was accepted.

The plantings included two large windmill palms, six Sabal minors, and two needle palms. The current Nandina plants will be relocated in the planters making an interesting contrast with the hardy palms.  The larger evergreens will be removed and relocated to other landscape areas on campus.

Donations will be accepted to purchase signs displaying the common and botanical names for each species.
