Pulaski Technical College to celebrate 15th anniversary this week

Happy Birthday, Pulaski Technical College!

Two special events have been planned to celebration the 15th anniversary of Pulaski Tech becoming a college.

A 15th Anniversary Community Celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, on the Campus Center Plaza, and will include refreshments and music by Brenda & Ellis, a rhythm and blues trio.

The event is open to the public.

Guest speakers will include Dr. Dan F. Bakke and Quenton Burge, who works in the college's Physical Plant. Mr. Burge has worked for the school since 1964, making him the college's senior employee.

On Thursday, a 15th Anniversary Birthday Blowout for students will be held 6-8 p.m. on the Campus Center Promenade. Food and games will be provided along with musical entertainment by the Big John Miller Band. That event is sponsored by Student Life and Leadership.

Both activities celebrate Pulaski Tech's conversion in 1991 from a vocational-technical school to a two-year college.

In 1991, the Arkansas Legislature passed Act 1244 that converted the state's vocational-technical institutions into community colleges and brought them under the guidance of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. At that time, the former Pulaski Vocational Technical School became Pulaski Technical College.
