Fabrication Services, Inc. employees complete welding program
Thirteen employees of Fabrication Services, Inc. of Little Rock have completed an intensive 10-week welding program at the Pulaski Technical College Business and IndustryCenter, located on the campus of the Aerospace Education Center/IMAX Theatre.
To celebrate completion of the training program, Jim Broussard, vice president of marketing and sales for FSI, will sponsor a luncheon for FSI employees on Friday, May 5, from at the company's headquarters, 1902 East 22nd Street, Little Rock. The public is invited to attend to learn more about the program and the services FSI offers central Arkansas.
Funded with an Incumbent Workforce Training Program grant from the Arkansas Workforce Investment Board, the welder/fitter program was designed to improve quality and increase production by enhancing the employees' skills in various aspects of welding, Broussard said.
The customized training program was designed specifically for FSI because of its unique niche in the manufacturing industry in central Arkansas, said Dr. Marty Mahler, dean of continuing education and business outreach at Pulaski Tech. The training program consisted of the following components: general shop safety, print reading, welding symbols, technical mathematics, joint design, welding processes, basic electricity, pipe welding and oxy-fuel cutting.
"As the economy has rebounded, it is increasingly difficult to find technical skilled workers in central Arkansas as well as across the state," Mahler said. "As a result, companies such as FSI that rely upon a skilled workforce must provide the necessary training for their employees in order to keep pace with the demands of customers from across the country."
Fabrication Services employees completing the program included Benny Baker, Brenda King, Ray McBurnett, Mike Garland, Allen Dewhurst, Eric Phillips, Raymond Henry, Luis Martinez, Alejandro Martinez, Gaspar Vazquez, Ronnie Spann and James McCrary.
