"Raise Your Hood for the Cure" auto check event revs up Saturday

The Little Rock area Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts Stores and Pulaski Technical College will sponsor a free "Raise Your Hood for the Cure" car care clinic to help raise awareness and donations for the Arkansas Affiliation of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The clinic will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Pulaski Technical College Little Rock -South site, located at 13000 Interstate 30 near the Pulaski and Saline County line.

Students from the Transportation Technology Center at Pulaski Tech will check belts, hoses, wipers and other key parts, and top off fluids. Car owners will be advised of any mechanical problems, but there will be no repairs during the clinic.

Donations will be accepted and those donations will go directly to the Arkansas Komen Foundation. The Arkansas State Police will also be on hand to do child safety seat checks.

The free car care clinic is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Signs will help direct drivers to the clinic.

"Our idea is to present factual information about automotive maintenance in a non-intimidating setting. Many times, a car owner could minimize or even prevent mechanical issues with their car if they knew how to perform some very easy checks," says Elizabeth Estes, Director of Corporate Training for Bumper to Bumper.

"Advocating for safety is another goal of the event," says Estes. "If we can help prevent just one person from the frightening experience of being stranded on the side of the road, we will consider this event a huge success."
