Pulaski Tech student Aaron DeClerk was the lucky winner of a scholarship during the college's annual PTC Night at Dickey-Stephens Ball Park.
The drawing took place between the sixth and seventh innings during the Arkansas Travelers game against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on July 30.
DeClerk, 40, of North Little Rock, said the scholarship will help him get closer to his goal of completing his college degree and finding a good IT job in the area of network security. He put off going to college immediately after high school and instead joined the U.S. Marines for four years. After his duty, he went to work in automotive technology industry. As vehicles became increasingly computerized, DeClerk got interested in the computer side of the industry.
Last fall, he enrolled at PTC and is working toward an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems (Networking Option). He's already completed his Security+ certification.
"I knew I didn't have the mindset for college immediately after high school," DeClerk said. "It took me to 40 years to get there, but now it really means something to me."
