Wire actor to speak at PTC Thursday

Jamie Hector

Jamie Hector is a Haitian-American actor who is known for his portrayal of Marlo Stanfield on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire. He will be speaking on the North Little Rock campus of Pulaski Tech today at 2  p.m. in the Business Technology Center Building (Tom Steve's Room) and at 7 p.m. in the RJ Wills Lecture Hall in the Campus Center. 

His presentation will focus on the importance of black males completing a college education. He will also discuss how you can transition from the streets and use your intelligence toward a stable career.  This event is part of Models of Success, which is a lecture series presented by The Network for Student Success at Pulaski Technical College.  The Network's focus is to improve retention and graduation rates of African American males at PTC.

Born in Brooklyn in 1975, Hector has had roles in several movies such as: Prison Song, Ghost Dog, with Forrest Whitaker, Paid in Full, and the Spike Lee films Clockers and He Got Game.  As a television actor, he has booked roles on New York Under Cover. The Beat and Law and Order.  He has helped to raise money for victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and he continually mentors youth through his organization:  Moving Mountains.  Through Moving Mountains Jamie teaches, councils, mentors and directs the lives of young people who want to pursue the performing arts as a career.
