Dr. Margaret Ellibee begins college presidency

Dr. Margaret A. Ellibee began her first day as Pulaski Technical College president by addressing college faculty and staff at the annual PTC Convocation held Aug. 16.

A video of the speech can be seen here.

Ellibee received a warm reception as she shared her aspirations for the future of Pulaski Tech.

"Our continuing success here at PTC will be a team effort based on excellence, clear and honest communication, and living the core values of respect, integrity and commitment," she said.

She enumerated her priorities, among them the implementation of college conversations to create productive dialogue among faculty, staff and administration.  Other priorities include sustained, focused work on retention and completion; having a strong return on investment for PTC students, the local community, and business and industry; starting an international program and partnership for students, faculty and staff; establishing a multicultural resource center; growing the Service Learning program and obtaining a VISTA partnership; establishing a food pantry for PTC students who are in need; and continuing to grow veterans' services.

Her address mixed personal anecdotes and humor, as well, as she answered rhetorical questions about football allegiances and her height.

"Yes, I can call the Hogs, and I have been a Green Bay Packers fan since before I was born... and, I'm 6'2" with the shoes on," she said.

Ellibee's selection by the College Board of Trustees was made official in June. She was introduced at the Convocation by Board Chair John Suskie.

"The Board chose the candidate who best personifies the finest qualities of a leader in higher education: breadth of knowledge and experience; a proven record of success; a positive, can-do attitude; a collaborative approach to problem solving; a person who expects as much from herself as from those around her; an ambassador; a visionary." Suskie told the audience.

Prior to coming to Pulaski Tech, Dr. Ellibee served as vice president for strategic effectiveness and advancement at Waukesha County Technical College in Wisconsin. Previously, she served as state director for career and technical education with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and coordinator for innovative programming and research at the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.

Dr. Ellibee received a Doctor of Philosophy in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin in 1995. She received a Master of Science in general agriculture from the University of Arkansas in 1988 and a Bachelor of Science in agricultural education from Iowa State University in 1983. She taught vocational agriculture at Stuttgart High School from 1983 to 1986.

Dr. Ellibee is the fourth president in Pulaski Tech's history. She replaces Dr. Dan F. Bakke, who retired June 30 after 12 years at the helm of the state's largest two-year college. Dr. Michael DeLong, the college's executive vice president and provost, served as interim president from July 1 until Aug. 15.
