SCAEC students celebrate GED graduation

More than 100 students in the Saline County Adult Education Center celebrated completion of the GED program at a graduation ceremony Friday at Pulaski Technical College's Little Rock-South site.

"They have worked very hard toward this milestone, and we want to recognize their achievement," said Yvonne Dougherty, the SCAED center director.

For the 2011-2012 academic year, Saline County Adult Education Center had 124 graduates. Of those, 28 receive a full-tuition scholarship to Pulaski Technical College.

Guests included Dr. Dan F. Bakke, president of Pulaski Technical College; Dr. Michael DeLong, provost of Pulaski Technical College; Mary Ann Shope, interim vice president for learning of Pulaski Technical College; Jimmie Jones, interim vice president of economic development of Pulaski Technical College; Shane Broadway, interim director of Arkansas Department of Higher Education; Rep. Ann Clemmer of Bryant; Rep. Kim Hammer of Benton; and Jason McGehee, assistant to U.S. Congressman Tim Griffin.

Pulaski Technical College operates the Saline County Adult Education Center located at 16936 Interstate 30 in Benton at Exit 117. The center offers General Educational Development (GED) preparation, basic skills, English as a Second Language, and computer literacy programs for residents of Saline County and the surrounding area.
