PTC Police sponsor Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Pulaski Technical College will participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, a nationwide initiative sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28.

The Pulaski Technical College Police Department will have officers available to assist in the disposal of prescription drugs which are no longer needed. Officers will be stationed at tables at the Pulaski Tech main campus, Little Rock - West and Little Rock -South.

Prescriptions drugs are the most widely abused drugs among young adults and teenagers today.  Most homes have unused prescription drugs sitting in the drawers and cabinets where children may have access to them.  Arkansas continues to be placed near the top of national rankings for the incidence of teen prescription drug abuse.  Arkansas sixth graders abuse prescription drugs more than any other substance except alcohol, cigarettes and inhalants. By the time students reach their senior year of high school, 21 percent have abused prescription drugs.

The success of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will have a positive impact on these alarming realities and help campus life at Pulaski Tech. The campus community is encouraged to tell parents, friends and relatives and to bring all unused prescription drugs to Pulaski Tech Oct. 28 to dispose of them.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is designated for Saturday, Oct. 29, but Pulaski Tech will participate a day earlier in order to better serve the campus community.

The Pulaski Technical College Police Department thanks participants in advance for helping to protect the citizens of the State of Arkansas.
