Saline County Adult Education Center

Pulaski Technical College operates the Saline County Adult Education Center at Benton offering General Educational Development (GED) preparation, basic skills, English as a Second Language (ESL), and computer literacy programs for residents of Saline County and the surrounding area. The center is located at 16936 Interstate 30 in Benton at Exit 117. All classes and tests are currently offered free of charge to the student.

Steps for Enrollment
Enrollment is offered on an open-entry/open-exit policy.

  1. Attend both days of the orientation/enrollment classes on Monday and Tuesday at either 1 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. Students must be age 18 or over to enroll. Students aged 16 or 17 can enroll under certain guidelines.
  2. Submit an Arkansas picture I.D. or driver's license for proof of identification and Social Security Card.
  3. Complete an enrollment test in two parts: the LOCATOR and Test of Adult Basic Education (T.A.B.E). The T.A.B.E will be scored by machine and a diagnostic of the studentís academic strengths and weaknesses will be printed. This diagnostic tool will be utilized for instructional purposes.

Once a student is enrolled, then he/she may receive one-on-one instruction from a certified teacher during our regular hours of operation. Classes are from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. until noon on Friday. The student will be post-tested with the T.A.B.E after either 30 or 40 hours of classroom instruction (depending on the initial T.A.B.E. scores.)

G.E.D. Testing
The student must pass the Official G.E.D. Practice Test with a minimum score of 410 in each of the five areas on the test (writing, social studies, science, reading, and math) and overall average of 450 before he/she can take the Official G.E.D. Test. The G.E.D. Test is offered on Monday and Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Hours of Operation
8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday (except otherwise noted for holidays, school closings, and inclement weather. In case of inclement weather, Saline Country Adult Education Center closes with the Benton School District.) Office hours for full time staff are scheduled from 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoons.
